Beware of Fraud! University Hospital Bonn in Germany – Patient Reviews. Dr. Claus C. Pieper
Shocking Experience at the University Hospital Bonn: 3,000 Euros Taken – No Results, No Care
My son suffers from a rare condition – intestinal lymphangiectasia with chylous ascites. To confirm the diagnosis and determine treatment, he urgently needed an MR lymphography with gadolinium.
Through the internet we found the University Hospital Bonn in Germany, where this procedure is performed. At first, the reply to our email sounded positive: they said they treat this condition, perform MR diagnostics and provide therapy. But we were then referred to the international IMS department — and from that moment on, all friendliness ended.
IMS demanded a prepayment of 3,000 euros before even giving us a date. The price was clearly inflated. Whenever we asked questions, the only response was: “Send 3,000 euros.” This went on for nearly a month.
Since in our country there is war and banks are unreliable, we asked to pay in cash on arrival. They agreed.
On July 29 we arrived in Bonn. In the IMS office we were received arrogantly, with the same phrase: “Money first.” The next day we paid 3,000 euros in cash. My son was in a serious condition — he had just undergone a laparocentesis and still had stitches. Yet nobody spoke English, Russian or Ukrainian in this so-called “international” department. Communication was only possible through Google Translate. Staff spoke to us through clenched teeth while playing on their computers, showing no empathy.
When we begged for an urgent date, given that we had come from a country at war and my son’s health was worsening, the answer was cold: “No guarantees, we don’t know when.”
Finally, after a week of waiting, the MR lymphography was done on August 5. We expected clarity and a plan. Instead we received vague statements, contradictions and empty speculation. No clear answers, no concrete treatment options. Instead, we were told to stay for further expensive tests and hospitalization — costing tens of thousands of euros — without any certainty of benefit.
The worst came after: we were promised to receive the written report and 3D images by email within 2–3 days. Weeks have passed, and we received nothing. Our emails on August 11, 12, 13 went unanswered. Phone calls were useless — no English, only German, in an international department. When a doctor acquaintance called on our behalf in German, he was told the report usually takes two weeks. Later they changed it to two months. Endless lies and excuses.
To this day, we still do not have the results we paid for.
What we experienced at the University Hospital Bonn was not medical care — it was indifference, greed and deception.
We demand what we paid for:
-
The MR lymphography results (images and report)
 -
The promised medical consultation report

Until then, we warn other patients:
Beware of the IMS department at University Hospital Bonn — they take your money, but they do not care about your life.

Клиника просто ужасная
There is no worse clinic!! If I had read this earlier, I would have never come here. Such an immoral attitude towards people… I am ashamed that I brought my loved one here… we should have turned to other people instead. Zero empathy. If you continue like this, people simply won’t come to you anymore. Change your attitude towards patients! Maybe even replace the doctors!
I have never in my life encountered such indifference. One would think that a clinic in Europe should inspire trust, but here it is the complete opposite. It feels as if, for these people, a patient is nothing more than a way to squeeze out money. The doctors don’t explain anything properly, they speak coldly, as if they are doing you a favor. We came hoping for help, but in the end we got only disappointment and wasted time. If you value your health and peace of mind — stay away from this place.
The clinic left a terrible impression. We trusted them because the advertisement promised quality and care, but in reality it was nothing but empty promises and no results. The doctor, Klaus K. Piper, behaved as if we were bothering him, answering dryly and without any interest. After all this, only a sense of bitterness and deception remains. I regret wasting our time, money (€4000), and energy here instead of somewhere else.
My father-in-law had to be taken to this hospital by emergency medical services due to a critical condition. He spent more than 6 hours in a closed waiting area without any belongings or medications. His condition was very, very critical. Only after we made threats did he finally receive medical help. But afterwards he was accused of complaining to his relatives!
I mean, I fully understand that many hospitals suffer from staff shortages, and that beds or rooms are often limited. But in that case, both the emergency doctors and the hospital should have prepared solutions for urgent care. It is unacceptable to simply ignore a person in a critical condition and deny them assistance.
In May, my father-in-law underwent heart surgery. The next evening, he experienced severe headaches and hallucinations. He was trembling all over. The medical staff told him not to overdo it. We called, and they lied to us, saying that he was sleeping, while in reality he was suffering all night. If we had known, we would have gone there, but he was unable to use his mobile phone.
On Friday, he was transferred to another hospital, and only there we learned that he had suffered two strokes and had fluid in his liver. In Bonn, they said he was simply dehydrated. They just pumped him with water and sedatives without proper treatment. Since Thursday, he has been suffering from panic attacks and anxiety disorders.
How can anyone ignore a person’s suffering like this!!! Irresponsibility and disgrace! There will be consequences!
This clinic urgently needs to do something about its admissions department. Such chaos! And another thing: it’s already 2025, yet mobile phones don’t even get reception inside the clinic buildings… This is always a problem for us!! On top of that, the overcrowded parking lot is made worse by constantly malfunctioning ticket machines. Sometimes you need cash, sometimes a card. Total chaos here as well. The parking system is always a disaster! Dozens of cars are lined up at a single working machine!! How humiliating this is! Every visit feels like a walk through hell!!!!
Very poor attitude, and everywhere you look there are only negative reviews about them. Is this normal? It shouldn’t be this way! We pay high insurance contributions and taxes. I don’t think a seven-hour wait in the emergency department can be considered normal. This is absurd! This clinic are thieves and charlatans!
I can only give this place one star, because giving anything less is impossible.
Very bad people work here.
I was just hospitalized because I have diabetes and I am pregnant. An assistant said she would take care of my problem.
Then I had to wait while she finished her work, and I just sat there waiting.
The next assistant simply wanted to get rid of me and practically forced me into the children’s department.
What nonsense is this? Am I, at 30 years old, supposed to be in the children’s department?!
This place is a disaster, I do not recommend it.
When I arrived here with acute pain, I was sure I would get help. But not only was the staff completely incompetent, they also showed a complete lack of courtesy. The doctor didn’t even want to listen to my complaints, and the nurses acted as if I were bothering them. How can anyone treat a sick person like this? I wasted my time and money, but got no results. I’m very disappointed and will never come back.
My name is Marina, I am 39 years old. I thought public hospitals were worse, but I was wrong. At University Hospital Bonn, private services are expensive, but the service is simply terrible. The parking lot is overcrowded, the machines don’t work, and the security guard is rude. Inside, everything looks nice only on the surface, but the attitude toward people is awful. Doctor Pieper didn’t even bother to look at my test results, he just said: “Come back in a week.” I am in serious pain, and they are just wasting time. This is not medicine, this is abuse!
